Ulusaba is Sir Richard Branson’s private game reserve in South Africa's Sabi Sand. Ulusaba has 20 rooms and suites spread over two lodges: Rock Lodge, including the beautiful Cliff Lodge, and Safari Lodge. The name Ulusaba means ‘place of little fear’, so named because the koppie, or hill, on which Rock Lodge sits provided the ancient Shangaan tribal warriors with the perfect lookout point.
Safari Lodge fits snugly under a canopy of ancient trees on the edge of a dry riverbed. Some rooms are accessed by swing bridges and have views of passing animals on their way to the watering hole.
There are three impressive, treehouse-style Elephant Rooms at Safari Lodge. These light-filled spaces occupy an elevated position above the bush, with large viewing decks offering views of passing game. Each is furnished with a large and comfortable king-size bed that can be converted into a twin on request. They also have large en-suite bathrooms furnished with relaxing soaking tubs.
